On This Day – 17th March 1875

Althea Gentel, 1875-1952

On this day in 1875, Althea Gentel, the lady in the image shown above was born in Beeston, Nottinghamshire, England. She was the eldest of three daughters born to my 4th Great Aunt and Uncle,  Althea Massey and Lister Thomas Gentel. Her father was a Maltster. She married in 1908, aged 33, to a Brewer, Frederick Spencer Frost (also included in the images below).

(Frederick and Althea Frost)

They spent their married life in Staffordshire and together they had 4 children – one son and three daughters. Althea would be my 1st cousin 4 times removed on my maternal line. Her Grandfather William Cammon Gentel (1798-1866) was my 4th Great Grandfather. The Frost family home known as “The Cedars” sits on Branstone Road, Burton on Trent, Staffordshire, England and looks to be a rather grand dominating structure.

Althea preceded her husband in death by just 4 years but they were both aged 77 when they passed away. There is an interesting story to tell in connection with this family and a very well known brand but I want to save the details of that for a longer post I intend writing and sharing later this week so for now I am just going to leave these lovely images here which were very kindly shared with me by the Great Great Grand-daughter of Althea.
