James Heseltine Dinsdale, 1874-1901

Father-in-law of 5th cousin twice removed (Maternal)

Son of James Dinsdale and Dinah Heseltine, born in Steeton, Yorkshire, England. A Coachman by trade and husband of Ellen Ridley and father to Alice, Nellie and Lilian Ridley Dinsdale. James served as a Trooper with the South African Constabulary during the Second Boer War. He sadly died on 27 Nov 1901 at Abraham’s Kraal after contracting Enteric Fever. He was 28 years of age.

Lancelot Rogers 1880-1900

2nd cousin 3 times removed (Maternal)

One of thirteen children born to Edward Thomas Rogers and Susannah Metcalfe Robinson. Born 5 Jul 1880 in Bishop’s Stortford, Hertfordshire, England. He served as a Private in the 4th Batt. of the Bedfordshire Regiment and died on 8 Jul 1900 in Kimberley, South Africa. His name lies on the Bedfordshire Boer War Memorial and also on a plaque in St Paul’s C. of E. Church in Bedford. An image of that plaque may be found here.
